Painting Started

We stopped by last weekend to see if anything had been done on the outside, I am eagerly awaiting to see when the downpipes will go on so that some of the flooding that happens around the house can be avoided during the downpours. Water obviously isn’t great for foundations.

We found the painters busy at it on a Saturday, whilst we didn’t want to bother them we couldn’t resist the urge to ask for a quick peak inside. They were happy to give us a quick walk through which was nice of them. Not wanting to take up too much of their time or get too into their faces, I took a few happy snaps and left.

Will have to arrange a walk through soon… but don’t want to drag our site supervisor out for no reason.

Internal color is white for doors and trim, and Taubmans smooth pebble for the walls. Looks nice and earthy.

Exterior is all white for eaves, and Dune for the moroka'd front porch.

Tiling Completed

Tiling has been completed and the tiler was actually nice enough to send me some photos of there work. They had called me to see if I would be dropping off the Alfresco tiles or not for some reason !

The wall tiles are all Cotto Trio Flax Gloss
The feature in the niches are sliced pebbles
and the floor tiles are all DL10254 not sure what the name of this tile is.

We did order additional wall tiles and will be attempting to do floor to ceiling after handover, i'll update on how this goes.

Internals Well Underway - Lots of Photos

To summarize our selections included the following

• External Bricks are Bowral Solid Dry Pressed Murray Grey
• Gutters: ACE gutters in Monolith color, or otherwise known as Monument
• Roof Tiles: Boral Contour Gunmetal 
• Window frames were in surf mist
• Internal Doors: Corinthian Motive Doors Motiv MOTP 3D
• Front Door: Corinthian Infinity INF 8G 2340 x 1020 Front door
• Polyurethane Cabinets in Gloss Taubmans Struan Grey, along with bevelled edges and flat profile.
• Countertops are Ceaserstone Osprey
• Round bowls chosen for the sinks
• Floor tiles in all wet areas are Di Lorenzo DL10254 not sure of the actual name

Overall I can't fault the workmanship, there are a few errors that need to be sorted but nothing major. We had a broken door, as well as a niche done incorrectly.

The only thing I would have changed at tender time would have been the provision for waterproofing of wet areas. I'm not a waterproofing expert, but would have preferred the entire area had been waterproofed, and not just done to the minimum standard.

I'll add that the waterproofing is done this way by the majority of builders from what I have seen, with the exception of a few.

Other things I would have asked to be changed would have been.

• Recessing the power box into the brickwork
• Recessing the gas heater into brickwork as well.

All of our internal doors including the robe, pantry doors are 2.3m 

Laundry door is standard, and we may change it later on.
